Summer Organizing Internship!

OVERVIEW OF THE  RIGHT TO COUNSEL NYC COALITION:

The Right to Counsel NYC Coalition is a tenant-led, broad-based coalition that formed in 2014 to disrupt Housing Court as a center of displacement and stop the eviction crisis that has threatened our families, our neighborhoods and our homes for too long. Our Coalition is made up of tenants, organizers, advocates, legal services organizations and more! We believe Right to Counsel isn’t just about ensuring tenants have attorneys in housing court. It’s about fighting to reclaim our city and our communities, to keep people in their homes and to de-normalize the violence of evictions. We are building campaigns for an eviction-free NYC and ultimately for a right to housing.  We are running direct action campaigns against NYC’s worst evictors, changing the laws to stop evictions, supporting the development of passionate and zealous attorneys committed to tenant power, and expanding and strengthening Right to Counsel so that it extends to all tenants.

RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Increase our social media presence by building our followers on twitter and facebook, creating social media plans, creating content such as memes, posts and videos that we can use strategically, monitoring and analyzing our following and more.
  • Support the Tenant Organizing work by helping to plan monthly tenants rights and organizing orientations, conducting outreach to tenants facing eviction and more!
  • Support the Housing Courts Must Change Campaign, by attending meetings, helping to plan actions, conducting research and more.
  • Support the work of the coalition in general by assisting with various projects including: creating trivia game based on our tenant movement history timeline, creating outreach materials for the tenant organizing work, etc.

Responsibilities are flexible and will be based on interest, capacity and skills.

Start and end dates, as well as the days and times are flexible.
