We are excited to announce that there is a new Right to Counsel hotline for tenants.
Those who are facing eviction in Right to Counsel zip codes can call this hotline to see if they are eligible for a lawyer and get more information about how the law works.

In NYC, landlords try to evict hundreds of thousands of people every year. It's time we put them on trial for the eviction crisis in NYC.
Join tenants from across the city, and members of the Right to Counsel NYC Coalition as we put landlords and the government on trial for their role in the eviction crisis.

We are so excited to announce that Right to Counsel for NYCHA tenants facing a termination of tenancy (administrative) proceeding at 803 Atlantic Ave, has now begun!!! To phase it in for NYCHA tenants, the city is starting with seniors. NYCHA tenants, age 62+ may be eligible for an attorney! And remember, all NYCHA tenants who have eviction cases in Housing Court, regardless of age, have the right to an attorney if they live in a current RTC zip code.
For more information about how this works now, please see the updated Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) on our website, or enter your information online at: www.evictionfreenyc.org.
The implementation of Right to Counsel is constantly evolving! We will continue to update our website and resources as the implementation of the law progresses.
After introducing our new bill last month, we are officially launching our "Right to Counsel, Power to Organize" campaign, calling for legislation (Intro 1104 and Intro 1529) to be passed to expand NYC's current Right to Counsel (RTC) law. We want to ensure that nearly all tenants facing an eviction have RTC and know about it. Sign our petition to Mayor DeBlasio now!Read more
What a powerful week! During our Worst Evictors Week of Action, we did 4 actions, where hundreds of tenants spoke their truth, claimed their power, named their landlords, the banks that fund them and the lawyers that represent them. We served landlords with eviction notices on the street, in the court and in their offices. We stormed their offices and canvassed their buildings. We are powerful.
If you haven't already, make sure to check out our new Worst Evictors NYC website, which includes our worst evictors list, eviction maps, organizing tools and more!

The Right to Counsel NYC Coalition is currently accepting applications for a Communications Intern. Please see the internship description here and contact us!
The Right to Counsel NYC Coalition led the fight to make it a right to have a lawyer if you face an eviction in NYC. After a three-year, tenant-led campaign, we passed our Right to Counsel law in August 2017, making NYC the first in the nation to guarantee this right. We continue to organize for a just implementation and expansion of the law. Our coalition is made up of tenants, tenant organizers, legal service organizations, academics, and more.
We are seeking a Communications Intern to join our talented team. This internship provides hands-on learning of the communications, campaign, and coalition work happening within NYC’s tenant movement. Learn more and apply here!
