The Right to Counsel NYC Coalition invites you to our upcoming Court Watch Training next Thursday May 12 at 6:30pm via Zoom. Currently, the state courts, or the Office of Court Administration (OCA), are moving eviction cases forward in NYC in which tenants should be guaranteed Right to Counse (RTC).. This means hundreds of tenants across NYC housing courts are effectively being denied Right to Counsel. Since becoming city law in August 2017, Right to Counsel has been successful and over 80% of tenants that had free legal representation were able to stay in their homes.
Join us for this critical training and help us build a city-wide Court Watch program. We will cover the eviction process, how tenants get RTC, and current overview of housing courts. We need you to join our team of volunteers and help us court watch so tenants know their rights, claim their rights, and can navigate housing court with our solidarity and support. Invite your friends, family, and allies to join this training and our Court Watch team!
Register at the bottom of the page and you will receive an email with the Zoom link.
*Please note there will be Spanish interpretation and materials will be available. We will also be releasing an informational guide, in English and Spanish, to help tenants navigate housing court if they aren’t able to be connected to a RTC attorney.
